FDA Issues Warning Letters Following Fungal Contamination in a Veterinary Product Linked to Serious Infections in Nearly 100 Horses & 20 Deaths
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently issued warning letters to Neogen Corporation and Sciarra Aeromed, Inc., following an investigation that linked a veterinary wound care product labeled as sterile, Neogen Vet HYCOAT (hyaluronate sodium sterile solution), to serious infections in nearly 100 horses and led to 20 equine deaths.

American Regent Animal Health is conducting a nationwide recall of two lots of Adequan® Canine Injection (for dogs) and two lots of Adequan® i.m. Injection (for horses). The products are being recalled due to the presence of glass fibers found during testing of internally retained samples.

Classical Scrapie Confirmed in Oregon Sheep Through Routine Surveillance
ODA and USDA APHIS have confirmed a case of classical scrapie in a sheep slaughtered in a facility in Oregon. The animal was tested as part of USDA’s ongoing national scrapie surveillance program, which is designed to identify classical scrapie in sheep and goats at slaughter facilities.
