Our Mission
To serve veterinarians in Oregon, the veterinary profession and the public through education, public relations, and political action, and by promoting among veterinarians the highest standards of animal care and professional ethics.
Our History
Since 1911, the OVMA has been serving the needs and interests of Oregon veterinarians and their patients by vigorously advocating for the veterinary profession and helping to ensure that practitioners can continue to practice medicine in their patients' best interests.
During the 20th century we progressed from a scattering of mostly self-taught veterinarians to a highly educated group comprising one of the most respected professions in the state. Today, the OVMA has about 1,000 members. As in 1911, the OVMA is the exclusive statewide organization committed to promoting veterinary medicine wherein veterinarians develop their vision, policies, goals, and activities.
Our Position Statements
The association's position statements reflect the views of the membership on a variety of issues, many dealing with animal welfare. If you are considering joining the OVMA and would like to review our position statements, please contact us.
